Dr. LuBovich - The Art of Dentistry

Our Dental Services: our office is a complete dental clinic with our own private full service dental laboratory. We can make anything we want to in dental service today.

All new patients are provided a booklet written by Dr. LuBovich. This booklet is a compilation of questions patients have asked Dr. LuBovich over the past years of his practice. The booket is titled: "What You Did Not Know About Dentistry And Did Not Know To Ask." We have this booklet attached to the website, and you can pull it up in the FAQ section. If you would like us to mail this booklet to a friend, we will be happy to do so.

The very first service Dr. LuBovich performs is a complete examination and treatment plan. Our patients are provided two letters at their comprehensive examamination. One is a diagnosis letter that reviews their dental health and diagnoses what dental disease is present. The second letter is a comprehensive treatment plan that will enable a patient to recover good dental health.

1. Preventing Dental Disease. We help patients save hard earned money from needing to be spent on dental disease treatment. This includes counselling on how to prevent dental disease better at home. This includes the use of electric toothbrushes, and also the Hydrofloss. A Hydrofloss charges water with negative ions, and negative ions will stick to skin and kill bacteria. Our goal, for our patients, is to help them acquire and maintain their mouth, teeth, and gums in the highest standard of health available.

2. Restorative dental services. This includes cosmetic dentisty, major makeovers, metal and porcleain crowns, porcelain veneers, gold inlays, porcelain inlays and composite white tooth restorations.

3. Prosthetic service. This includes removable partial dentures, complete dentures, palatal lift devices, devices to close holes in the upper jawbone. We can make successful prosthetic devices on very handicapped foundations. Dr. LuBovich can restore any implant placed, and we have implant parts, in stock, for many different implant systems.

4. Root canal service: We provide root canals for most teeth. The only limitation is if a tooth's nerves are calcified. We also perform surgical root canal services.

5. Tooth removals: Dr. LuBovich has performed tooth removal, including third molar removals(impacted teeth. Complex surgical procedures are not uncommon in our office.

6. Dental implant placement: Dr. LuBovich was a pioneer in dental implants, and we place dental implants, weekly. We also elevate and bone graft upper jaw sinuses for the purpose of placing dental implants. We place bone grafting in areas where needed, such as when there is a large infection around a disesed tooth. We also close sinus openings into the mouth.

7. Premedications: For patients that want to forget they were in the office, we provide medications to help with their anxiety or additional comfort during dental treatment.

8. Nitrous Oxide analgesia: Nitrous oxide(laughing gas) is a very effective pain reducer(analgesic), and it helps reduce anxiety during dental treatment.

9. Sedation dentistry: We have monitors and equipment for complete sedation for special patient needs. We have made arrangements with certified nurse anesthetists to deeply sedate patients when needed.

10. Makeovers: Dr. LuBovich can create the smile you desire. Dr. LuBovich has perfected special pattern systems that are tried in on your prepared teeth(for veneers or crowns), that will develop the smile you prefer for your appearance. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and with these special patterns, we can make your smile, your way.

11. TMJ treatment: When patients grit, grind or clench their teeth over a long period of time, damage can occur to their jaw joints(TMJ). Automobile or other accidents can also cause damage to jaw joints. Dr. LuBovich helps patients with TMJ pain. There are devices that can be made to reduce jaw joint inflammation, and enable the jaws to heal. There are other devices that can be made to pull a jaw forward out of a painful position.

All of our Teammates are trained to help patients learn better how to prevent dental diseases(gum disease, dental decay, and the effects of tooth grinding and clenching).

We have a full time hygienist that not only provides professional cleanings for our patient's teeth, but helps them learn better how to prevent dental disease. Our hygienist provides our younger patients with sealants and fluoride treatments.

HydroflossWhen patients have gum disease, we can help them with deep cleaning of deep tooth-gum spaces, and help them learn how to clean those spaces out at home. Think about it, if you have a tooth gum space that measures 4-5-6 mms deep, how can you clean that space out with a brush or dental floss? Dental floss only goes down as deep as the face side and tongue side gums allow the floss to go (about 3 mm). So, another few millimeters of space remains filled with bacteria. When deep cleaning is accompanied with home care irrigation and cleaning of the deep tooth-gum space, bacterial plaque will be removed. We have a device that charges water with negative ions; this is called a Hydrofloss. A Hydrofloss charges water with negative ions, and negative ions stick to the skin in the tooth-gum spaces and kill bacteria. Good deep cleanings, and good home care to remove the bacteria enables gums to heal back to normal levels (3 mms). The Hydrofloss is dentistry's best kept secret. It really works wonderfully well for those patients that learn to use it accurately, and daily.

When patients have severe bone loss, Dr. LuBovich has been successful in building bone for a single weak tooth, or for the placement of implants. Preventing a weak tooth from becoming weaker is often a better choice than removing the tooth.

Preventing disease around dental implants is an important part of our care for patients. Dental implants need cleaning and good home care, just as natural teeth do. Dental implants need the benefit of the Hydrofloss, also. The bars that cover dental implants also need to be professionally cleaned, and home care cleaned with electric tooth brushing, super-flossing, and often bacterial killing rinses. We have all of these available for our patient's better prevention of dental diseases.

When patients grit, grind, or clench their teeth, teeth and bone around teeth often are badly damaged. We can determine if a patient is grinding their teeth, and fit them with a special device to slow grinding, and reduce the wear and damage to the teeth and supporting bone.

Root canal treatment is the removal of the nerve and blood vessel within a tooth root, and the replacement with a biocompatible filling material.

Historically, root canals were performed with stainless steel hand files. In many instances, a root canal could not be filed to the bottom of the root because the root end became too small(calcified).

Now, dentistry has rotary files that can be used in very slow moving handpieces. These rotary files are more flexible than the old hand files. They can often file through a very small remaining area of a nearly completely calcified tooth.

With the advent of rotary files, Dr. LuBovich has been able to provide patients single stop dentistry and often not need to be referred to an endodontist (a specialist in root canals). If the tooth is not badly calcified, Dr. LuBovich can usually treat most teeth with root canal services.

Since we perform root canals, and then perform posts to strengthen the single rooted sized teeth, we can save patients a trip back and forth to a root canal specialist, and then back to us for their custom post.

Most root canal posts, in other dental offices, are performed with a metal stainless steel post to which composite (plastic) is placed in the crown foundation area. However, stronger posts are made from a single metal casting. Most of the root canal posts, performed in Dr. LuBovich's office, are of the cast metal posts.

We have digital radiography in our office. This means we can make rapid radiograph pictures of root canal services, and do that with less radiation exposure to the patient.

Dental implants are bionic tooth roots. They are usually stronger than natural teeth. Natural teeth are supported by a ligament around the tooth and the ligament interfaces between the tooth root and bone. Bone fuses to most modern dental implants, and have no movement at all. Natural teeth can have a little wiggle to them. Natural teeth can wiggle a lot if they lose bone around them, or are compromised with tooth gritting or clenching.

Dental implants can be placed to restore a single tooth with a custom implant post and crown. Two dental implants can support a bar with precision attachments, and then the placement of a snap-on removable over-denture. Multiple implants can support a large bridge replacing all of the teeth in either upper or lower jawbone.

Sinuses are in the upper jaw. These black holes usually drop with gravity, and minimize bone available for dental implants. However, sinuses can be lifted back up and bone grafting used to fill the sinus area. After healing, or in combination with the bone grafting, dental implants can be placed for anchor support.

Bone that is narrow in the lower jaw can also be grafted to later receive dental implants. There are few areas of the upper and lower jaw that cannot be benefited, when needed, with dental implants. Dental implants are supporting anchors for a single crown, a removable or fixed prosthesis (cemented or bolted).

Few dental insurance companies pay for dental implants. Often an insurance company will suggest they do not pay for implants because they are cosmetic treatments. This is not true, dental implants are primarily for the creation of support (an anchor) for a prosthetic device (crown, over-denture, cemented-on-bridge or bolted-on-bridge).

Dr. LuBovich was a pioneer in implant placement; he has and performs programs on implant dentistry to numerous dental societies across the USA on implant dentistry.

Please see the attached newsletter for more information on a single dental implant post and crown restoration.

NEED CONTENT FOR BRIDGES. CONTENT ON OLD SITE IS THE SAME FOR IMPLANTS AND BRIDGES.

Over-dentures mean they are removable dentures built-over anchors of some sort. The anchors can be two or more teeth. The anchors can be two or more implants. The benefit of an over-denture is that it has more support and stability from the benefit of the anchors. The greater number of anchors (teeth or implants), the more stable and retentive the removable over-denture becomes. Even one tooth anchor, that is a little loose, will provide better stability for an over-denture than what can be accomplished with a conventional complete denture. That is true, and teeth should be retained, whenever possible, to anchor a prosthesis.

Complete dentures mean they replace all the missing teeth. A complete denture can be made for either upper or lower jaw when all the natural teeth are missing.

Bone shrinks without the benefit of teeth or dental implants being present. When a patient loses their teeth early in life, they will continue to lose jaw bone over their lifetime. This makes wearing dentures more difficult.

As a specialist in prosthodontics, Dr. LuBovich can make a denture fit better, and be more functional, even when there is little foundation for dentures. Dentures use atmospheric pressure to hold the upper denture in place. Lower dentures seldom have the benefit of a large boney foundation; therefore, they are more of a difficulty for many patients. However, Dr. LuBovich can, most of the time, overcome foundation problems that patients experience by making a lower denture that is made in harmony with the lower jaw muscles. By making a lower denture that functions within the movement of the lower facial and tongue muscles, success can be accomplished in wearing dentures. There is another design criteria that helps patients wear and function with upper and lower dentures; it is that of placing a cutter bar in the upper denture and flat porcelain teeth in the lower jaw. This improves efficiency, decreases the deflection of the lower denture during chewing, and also stabilizes the dentures.

As a cosmetic and makeover specialist, Dr. LuBovich has studied smiles and smile designing. He has pioneered and developed techniques that enable dentures to be made to look like natural teeth. Dr. LuBovich will listen to what patients want in their smile, find out what it is the patient is saying, and make their smile, their way.

Prosthetics is the replacement of a missing portion of an anatomic structure with an artificial replacement. You likely have heard of someone with an artificial leg, arm, or even an artificial eye.

Dentistry’s replacement of missing parts in the mouth, jaws, and teeth, are called dental prosthetic replacements.

These can be: complete dentures; removable partial dentures; fixed bridges; crowns or even veneers. They are all prosthetic dental replacements.

Dr. LuBovich also makes devices to replace a portion of an upper or lower jaw lost with an accident or cancer.

Dr. LuBovich also makes devices that enable patients to regain their ability to speak well after a stroke. Many times, a stroke victim will have a nasal sound, and lose the ability to close the throat preventing air, during speech, from coming out the nose.

A Prosthodontist is a specialist in making missing parts for teeth, jaws, and jawbones. Some prosthodontists limit themselves to only a few areas of treatment, such as complete dentures. Dr. LuBovich has studied all aspects of prosthodontics and lost-his-head in the joy of work in prosthodontic challenges.

Restorative dentistry involves the replacement of missing parts of a tooth. This constitutes white tooth restorations, gold inlays-onlays, gold crowns, porcelain crowns, porcelain veneers, or even porcelain inlays.

How can you chose what restoration is best for your special tooth need? Dr. LuBovich provides our patients a comprehensive new patient examination that includes a written diagnosis of all of your dental disease, and a treatment plan letter that provides you with a detailed treatment recommendation.

One material may be stronger for your particular need. For example, if you grind your teeth and need a crown on a lower second molar, you may want to consider having a gold crown placed. Gold crowns resist the forces of tooth grinding better than porcelain crowns, for example.

Porcelain inlays are beautiful restorations; however, their use should be in teeth that are very sound without cracks, and in patients whom do not grit, grind or clench their teeth. Many times, an only (covering the cusps-points) of a cracked teeth will prevent fracture of a cusp, in later years. The same is true for gold inlays; many times, they should cover the cusps (points) of the teeth so later breaking of the tooth can be prevented.

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." Several patients like gold on their front teeth. Other patients want a diamond placed on a front tooth.

These requests are not the usual; however, they are special for that patient's special need. We have placed diamonds on gold veneers for a front tooth. We have placed gold crowns on front teeth with various shapes; for example, we have placed crosses, initials, and even playboy bunny rabbits, on gold and then placed on a front tooth.

If you have a single upper or lower front tooth that needs a crown or veneer, special color layering is important to be performed in order to match a single tooth color in the front of your mouth. We special blend porcelains to match colors to any natural tooth color. This takes more time, and a willingness to mix porcelains to accomplish this task; however, we accept the challenge of any tooth that may be difficult to match and accomplish that challenge.

If you have metal allergies, or are concerned about a dental material being compatible with your body, we can help you acquire testing to determine which material is best to use in your restoration.

The restoration of a tooth should be an artful expression welding appropriate form (anatomy) to color. Our goal is to create very anatomic artful creations that will appear real, and function like a very natural healthy tooth.
