Root Canals

Root canal treatment is the removal of the nerve and
blood vessel within a tooth root, and the replacement with a biocompatible
filling material.
Historically, root canals were performed with stainless steel hand files.
In many instances, a root canal could not be filed to the bottom of
the root because the root end became too small(calcified).
Now, dentistry has rotary files that can be used in very slow moving
handpieces. These rotary files are more flexible than the old hand files.
They can often file through a very small remaining area of a nearly
completely calcified tooth.
With the advent of rotary files, Dr. LuBovich has been able to provide
patients single stop dentistry and often not need to be referred to
an endodontist (a specialist in root canals). If the tooth is not badly
calcified, Dr. LuBovich can usually treat most teeth with root canal
services.
Since we perform root canals, and then perform posts to strengthen the
single rooted sized teeth, we can save patients a trip back and forth
to a root canal specialist, and then back to us for their custom post.
Most root canal posts, in other dental offices, are performed with a
metal stainless steel post to which composite (plastic) is placed in
the crown foundation area. However, stronger posts are made from a single
metal casting. Most of the root canal posts, performed in Dr. LuBovich's
office, are of the cast metal posts.
We have digital radiography in our office. This means we can make rapid
radiograph pictures of root canal services, and do that with less radiation
exposure to the patient
